Exploring the Clinical Relevance of Providing Increased Removal of Large Middle Molecules
Martin Wolley, Meg Jardine, Colin A. Hutchison
Individuals with ESKD requiring dialysis support continue to have high morbidity and mortality. When the causes of this disease burden are analyzed, chronic inflammation, protein-energy wasting, cardiovascular disease, and secondary immunodeficiency are key culprits. In this review, we have assessed whether the large middle molecules that are inadequately removed by current dialysis strategies could be contributing to this disease burden.
